Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their status as key figures in the influential clan could assist the party access areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character vowed a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This results in them few options but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Questers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can expect finding out which characters will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
