Roughly 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Automobiles, walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.

Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.

The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.

Police say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they commented.

Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have requested to the residents for details.

A senior representative commented the attack rendered him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.

"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
